Korean fashion in the 70's

Pann: Korean fashion in the 70's

1. [+120, -2] The outfits in this picture are so pretty...

2. [+89, -1] They wore short skirts a lot? I expected the 70's to be conservative.

3. [+59, -0] Unlike I thought, they don't look outdated.

4. [+44, -5] What's irony is that women at the time wore those short skirts to fight against the conservative prejudice and to win their rights but the feminists of Megal and Womad are jealous of pretty girls and bash them for dressing up because they themselves have a hopeless face and a body.

5. [+35, -0] I thought this was Son Heung Min.

6. [+24, -1] Trends circulate.

7. [+23, -0] This looks like fierce unnies in the 70's.

8. [+21, -0] The fashion was better at that time. Beggar looks are a trend nowadays so even the celebrities dress like this.

9. [+20, -0] This looks modern. I guess trends do circulate.

10. [+18, -0] This was in the late-80's. Doesn't the hairstyle looks modern, too?

Article: Foreign tourists in Seoul stayed for 5~6 days, shopped at Myungdong, and enjoyed a food tour

Source: Yeonhap via Nate

1. [+240, -0] Myungdong became Chinatown already.

2. [+236, -12] You think Myungdong has hopes when Koreans turned their backs on them? The store owners have to be responsible since they're the ones who became greedy and turned the place into China. They should be banning Chinese signs in Myungdong. Change Myungdong back to Korea.

3. [+197, -3] Is it true that Myungdong discriminates Koreans more than the US do?

4. [+20, -0] Honestly, there's no good restaurant in Myungdong.

5. [+11, -0] They came to travel but all they do is shopping.

Korea is #4 country that imports EU beer the most

Article: There's a lot of European beer around... Turns out that Korea is the 4th country that imports EU beer the most

Source: Yeonhap via Naver

Ranking of countries that import EU beer the most
1) USA
2) China
3) Canada
4) Korea
5) Russia
6) Switzerland
7) Australia
8) Taiwan

-

1. [+1507, -115] The size of Korea isn't even comparable to USA, China, and Canada but we're #4. It's because Korean beer sucks.

2. [+779, -84] Korean beer sucks because there's no competition. European beer tastes good. But let's not drink the Chinese beer Tsingtao!

3. [+265, -45] It's because Korean beer tastes like urine.

4. [+179, -23] Why does domestic beer suck so much?

5. [+182, -37] This small country is full of drinkers, huh?

-

Source: Nate

1. [+335, -18] It's better than domestic beer.

2. [+310, -13] European beer tastes good, indeed...

3. [+246, -10] The quality is too different from domestic beer. We can't help it.

4. [+14, -2] Honestly, the Japanese beer Asahi isn't good...

5. [+11, -2] German beer is just amazing.

Popularity of Korean agrifoods lead to 'fruit hallyu' boom

Article: 'Fruit hallyu' boom in Vietnam

Source: Kyunghyang via Nate

(Exported Korean agrifoods reached the highest in the first half of 2018, which was increased by 28% within a year.)

1. [+781, -16] My foreign friend told me Korean pears and strawberries taste really good.

2. [+699, -29] For summer, watermelon is the best... You can't find watermelons like this anywhere else.

3. [+473, -13] I remember how Japanese curling players Fujisa and Satsuki said they liked Korean strawberries and they got so much hate from Japanese right-wingers. Those right-wingers are being jealous and claim they're Japanese strawberries.

4. [+34, -0] Mangoes are on a whole new level in Southeast Asia ㅠㅠ

5. [+31, -0] If fruit hallyu actually happens, all Korean fruits will be exported and Koreans will have to pay much more for fruits ㅠㅠ This isn't good, it only benefits the middle-sellers ㅠㅠ

6. [+22, -2] Korean strawberries, watermelons, pears, and apples are a top class in the world. You can't compete.

7. [+19, -2] Vietnam is also a fruit heaven. Their fruits are sweeter and cheaper. They import Korean apples and strawberries but it's better to pay $1 and buy their durians or watermelons instead.

8. [+18, -2] The strawberries in the picture look really unappetizing.

Korea ranked #1 on Internet & smartphone usage

Article: "Korea, the most 'connected society' in the world... Ranked #1 on Internet & smartphone usage"

Source: Yeonhap via Naver

1. [+2583, -58] Communication is becoming more convenient but we're becoming more lonely.

2. [+1824, -261] It might be the most connected society in the world but most users are prone to getting brainwashed. Too much trend-following and witch-hunting.

3. [+1565, -48] Facebook and Instagram are perfect for showing off, bluffing, and acting emotional. It's the ultimate culture of faking. Life is tiring with people caring about how they look on the outside rather than the interior aspects.

4. [+506, -19] The problem is that it has more negative effects than positive effects.

5. [+80, -1] To put it positively, we're #1 on smartphone usage. To put it negatively, we're #1 on smartphone addiction.

Incheon Airport to adopt 'face recognition' system for departure

Article: Departing from the country by face recognition, not a passport... 'Smart Incheon Airport' opens a new era

Source: Yeonhap via Naver

1. [+350, -81] What about plastic girls?

2. [+286, -65] What's the point? You might not need the passport when you leave the country but when you enter or leave another country, you'll need the passport anyways ㅋㅋ

3. [+178, -34] Security is effective when the process is  complicated... Koreans only want things faster and more convenient, that's why we get these things and get our security broken. The future is about protecting information, Korea will suffer from its weakened security.

4. [+91, -15] People with a lot of plastic surgery will be alarmed ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

5. [+42, -9] Amazing~~

6. [+33, -4] Developed countries have tough immigration. This is like inviting all criminals.

7. [+27, -3] They need to stop wasting the tax on these useless things and work on reducing illegal immigrants instead. It doesn't even take more than 10 minutes to depart, why are they using money for little improvement?

8. [+21, -1] That means less jobs.

9. [+19, -1] There's a sense of satisfaction from getting stamps on your passport as you leave the country.

'K-ballet' dancers shine on global ballet scene

Seohee (American Ballet Theater)

Park Se Eun (Paris Opera Ballet), Kim Kimin (Mariinsky Ballet), Seohee

Kim Kimin

-

Article: K-ballet captures the world... 3 hits of body, education, and spirit

Source: Yeonhap via Naver

1. [+1671, -24] The country didn't do anything. It's their parents' work.

2. [+616, -20] I think the rivalry between the head of Korean National Ballet Choi Taeji and the head of Universal Ballet Moon Hoonsook played a role as well. We don't know the details but I've been reading newspapers for 20~30 years and these two people are the root. Head Choi Taeji, who is a gyopo, put a lot of effort into educating hoobaes. She sent the members of Korean National Ballet to international ballet contests and they got good results. So they became major ballet dancers and Korean National Ballet became a high-level ballet association. Seeing this, head Moon Hoonsook also worked hard in educating hoobaes. Park Se Eun was also scouted at Choi Taeji's elementary school ballet camp. Park Se Eun was the worst dancer because she started ballet the latest but Choi Taeji saw through her talent. She still goes around the country and teaches ballet for free.

3. [+502, -13] What's the point of being top dancers when they only promote overseas because there's no domestic scene? There needs to be a stage for ballet dancers and the audience. We can say the ballet culture is truly developed only when we have top foreign ballet dancers wanting to promote in Korea.

4. [+200, -9] It's hard to become that big by individual talent only. Korean National Ballet and Universal Ballet competed against each other and adopted Russian professors' works. It resulted in the increase in quality and the students were able to improve properly. It was 20 years ago when Kim Jiyoung and Kim Yonggul caused a ballet boom in Korea. The ones in the article are the next generation. 25 years ago, the domestic ballet group wasn't even able to follow Swan Lake but now they can pull off new European choreographs. Good results just follow automatically.

5. [+41, -0] We're good at everything now. All we need is politicians acting good.

6. [+36, -0] I don't think education counts as one of the 3 hits. Music, arts, and performances are all learned by money. Artists can only cry.

7. [+22, -3] So cool, Park Se Eun-ssi~

8. [+13, -1] There's even 'K-ballet'? It would've been a big problem if our country was spelled Corea in English ㅋㅋ

New school in Korea 'Saerom High School'

Pann: My school has pretty stairs

1. [+447, -14] It's very pretty but why does it remind me of a prison? Do I have weird thoughts?

2. [+127, -5] It looks like a school in a British movie... Doesn't feel like a Korean school.

3. [+96, -3] It looks like Panopticon

4. [+59, -1] This is Saerom High School in Sejong City. The school opened last year so the faculty is really good and it looks like a school in a drama. I envy you ㅠㅠ I want to go to a school like this.

5. [+56, -0] Am I the only one who thinks climbing the stairs would be frustrating?

6. [+37, -0] I really like how the building is white and the ceiling is glass. But it'll be so annoying to climb the stairs when you're running late.

7. [+31, -0] I think the fences should be taller.

8. [+29, -0] Whether it's pretty or not, climbing the stairs will be really frustrating.

9. [+13, -2] I go to Saerom High School ㅋㅋ My school opened last year and we have up to grade 11 students. There's 250 students in every grade, which is a lot for Sejong City. Until last year May, we didn't have a school uniform so we wore whatever we wanted ㅋㅋ We have a uniform now! They installed new fences because girls' skirts could be seen from below. The teachers are all nice. We have a lot of young teachers and we have our own F4 teachers. The school principal loves the color violet, makes dad jokes everyday, and gives candies to passing students. Ever since we entered the school, he called us the legends of Saerom ㅋㅋ Our slogan is 'Legend of Saerom'. We have Dokdo Gallery, which shows the real-time footage of Dokdo!

10. [+12, -0] It looks like a school in White Day game.

Ranking of Koreans' vacation cities for this summer

Article: "This summer, Osaka is a popular place for single & couple travelers, Da Nang is popular for families"

Source: Yeonhap via Naver

1. [+108, -3] Characteristic of Osaka - there are more Korean & Chinese people than Japanese people.

2. [+50, -1] On the Internet, there are many cheap travel packages to enjoy. I think it's good to use them to take a break from working hard.

3. [+24, -6] Why do politics and history matter when people just want to go to Japan ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Idiots

4. [+9, -0] Osaka is very hot in the summer

5. [+4, -0] Osaka and Da Nang aside, the lack of domestic travel resources is the biggest problem.
